Birchwood Casey TRU OIL Wood / Stock Refinisher 3oz
06 jan 2018
Use with patience and dont expect it to dry in minutes
On most woods requires 8-10 coats - this varies between wood species and individual pieces. its designed for use on very hard walnut (gun stocks) which along with maple will need 6-8 coats whilst softer swamp ash and pine 10+ coats
A piece of denim (4 x 4" folded into half twice) is good to apply it. Just wipe on quickly and evenly until the wholes usrface is lightly coated. Each subsequent coat takes less and less oil
In the UK you may get 3 coats on per day on dry summer days if you start early enough, but on cold damp winter days you'll need at least 24 hours between coats. On some oilier woods (paduak and rosewood for example) you can require several days and this can increase to 7-10 days if the bottle has been open for a while (assuming you've kept it in an airtight bag and its not set in the bottle)
Knock back any roughness before applying another coat with 0000 wire wools or 2000 grit paper. You'll know when you've got enough coats on as it gets a nice medium gloss on it
Once you are there dont even think about touching it for 10-14 days (10 in summer, 14 in winter) to let it harden enough to work with. It takes upto 3 months to get maximum hardness
