In THE KARATE KID, Daniel meets Ali, an attractive girl who seems to like him. But trouble looms when Ali's ex-boyfriend and his gang of ruffians start tormenting Daniel. One day, as Daniel is suffering a beating at the hands of these louts, Mr. Miyagi comes to his rescue. To Daniel's amazement, Miyagi manages to take down the whole group all by himself using karate. Daniel begs to learn this ancient martial art, and soon Miyagi begins the boy's training, teaching Daniel that there is more to karate than fighting. Through a series of lessons, the wise mentor instils a sense of honour and nobility in his young pupil while preparing him for the ultimate karate showdown. TOOTSIE is the tale of an out-of-work actor who auditions for a female role in a TV soap opera and becomes a star. ST ELMO'S FIRE is the story of a tightly-knit group of college graduates who must now confront, as individuals, all the issues of life after college in the 1980s. They must make tough decisions regarding their careers and relationships that will shape a lifetime and cause conflicts within their friendships. In THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESS, young Brantley Foster is fresh out of college, and determined to climb New York's corporate ladder in a record time by masquerading as an up-and-coming executive, even though he's really the new mail boy. Love and romance don't seem to mix with business, no matter how much everybody tries. BACK TO THE FUTURE presents the story of Marty McFly, a teenager from 1985 who commandeers the time-travelling DeLorean invented by Doc Brown, a wacky scientist friend, and is accidentally sent back in time to the 1950s. But the real problems start after he inadvertently disrupts the first meeting between his future parents - and his mum ends up falling for him instead. Eliciting help from the inventor of the time machine (who is now 30 years younger), Marty must untangle the reverse oedipal knot he's created, or he will never be born. If he can't influence them to fall in love, he might never exist! And if he somehow manages to succeed, he must then find a way to get 'back to the future'. In POLICE ACADEMY, the institution in question adopts a completely open admissions policy. Hence a large number of unemployable social misfits promptly enroll. The academy instructors have the most difficult wave of recruits to train up. This hilarious motley crew are the last, blundering buffoons you would want as upholders of the law, as your protectors. The crooks never had it so good.
