Members of the Buffalo Soldiers, an all-black regiment in the Korean War, and U.S. Marines who fought in the Persian Gulf War, describe the difficulty, sorrow, and heroism they witnessed in battle. In addition to the interviews are diary excerpts, letters, and personal home movies, which help construct a national history out of the very personal accounts from individuals and their families. Viewers are party to the hopes and dreams, discouragements and frustrations, and, ultimately, the heroic, that lies within these fascinating revelations.
