It works perfectly even at the end of a 10m USB extension cable. I noticed that I never get more than 20Mbps, which might be a limit of the modem, as when I used an Android phone on USB tethering I could get more than 20Mbps. (The USB cable would not support enough power to keep the android phone charged, so it was not a viable long term solution).
