I wanted to use it with an AN-271 folding whip which is about 10.5 ft long so I might not hit 40 meters. I have another whip I might try. That being said, it seems to be very solid, the coil form seems to be solid plastic, the wire and hardware stainless steel, a bit lossy compared to copper but no corrosion. The sliding contact may short turns.
