The Case Cutlery Company has been making quality knives for generations. The Case 263 Canoe pocket knife is a member of the family that they can be proud of. This is a folding pocket knife with two blades that is prized by collectors but still shows up for work. It is made in the classic canoe shape with quality materials and is suitable for everyday carry. Both blades of the Case Canoe knife are made of chrome vanadium steel. This is the original steel that was used by Case when they first began making knives, and it will appeal to traditionalists. The advantages of this steel are that it will hold its edge well and is easy to sharpen. It often does not need much more than a touch-up to bring back a very sharp edge. The two blade types on these pocket knives are the spear type and the pen type. The first is 2.6 inches long, and the second is 1.97 inches long. The knives have an overall length of 6.25 inches and a closed length of 3.625 inches. The knives weighs 2.9 ounces. The Case Canoe blades are both flat ground with plain edges. This gives a very sharp cutting edge to the knives with a wider belly that is ideal for slicing. The spear point on the larger blade of these knives is symmetrical, with the top and bottom edges curving to meet in a point at the center. This point is sharp enough for piercing, but it is also shaped well for general cutting. The smaller pen blade is mounted on the opposite end of the knife. It has a very similar shape to the larger one, but it narrows slightly through the belly. It is a very small blade that is ideal for light or delicate tasks. Both cutting tools on these knives are polished, and the larger one has an attractive etching of a Native American paddling a canoe. The Case Canoe knife gets its name from the gently curved arc of the handle that echoes the shape of a canoe. On this model, the handle is made of natural bone. It is a warm amber color with darker peach seed jigging. The jigged surface adds enough texture to the smooth bone to give you a secure grip when you are using the knife. The bone on these knives is capped by nickel silver bolsters that are polished to a high shine. It also features a small nickel silver script shield. The bone scales of this knife conceal brass liners and a slip-joint mechanism. Each blade has a separate back spring that enables the slip joint to hold it open individually and let it easily fold closed.
