The seat has a good layer of cushion and a strong pan underneath that has several layers of materials not just plastic but metal and fiberglass. If you are looking for a custom fit seat to your bike go with these guys, the shipping may take a bit, but you are wasting your time trying to either make one yourself or use an off the shelf seat.

The seat pan is metal which is superior to brands like Motone that use cheap plastic (which cracks). I had to bang in one of the seat hooks into place and so that the seat comes on and off easily. In exchange for just a minute or two of fidgeting with it and I saved hundreds over the competition. A quality item and a very good deal. Pictured with motone seat for comparison
